Transfer to Teal Guide Reflection....

Hello Seahawks (and #FutureSeahawks),

Dance team is going great! I am looking forward going to Murrayville Elementary school with the dance team this week. We are performing for the little kids at their fall carnival. Our first basketball game is also coming up in a few weeks. We are learning a few new dances too (one to a Justin Timberlake song). I love being on the UNCW Dance Team. Great experience and a lot of fun!! Go HAWKS!!

Transfer Tour Kudos!

Our Transfer to Teal Guides led great tours this past Saturday- here are some kudos received by one of the attendees:

“I also wanted to mention my impressions of the Transfer to Teal tour and the UNCW environment.  Tour Guides Anna and Stephanie were very professional and contributed a sense of personality that I would like to experience at UNCW.”

“Thank you for your time and we enjoyed the tour!”

If you would like to experience UNCW’s campus navigated by current Seahawk transfer students, sign-up today!

COMMON APPLICATION UPDATE!

This is updated information for those students who have applied to UNCW using the Common Application:

We have not been able to download the applications received through the Common App, and are aware that the organization is working to remedy the issues. Any student experiencing these issues will still be evaluated during the Early Action period, if requested, and will not be penalized.

Concerning applications successfully submitted, at this time, some schools, including UNCW, are unable to download the applications so we are unable to confirm receipt.

Other issues have surfaced as well, regarding submission of transcripts and recommendation letters, so be aware of problems in those areas.

For those students who have received a confirmation from Common App that your application was submitted, we request that the student not re-submit an application through any other UNCW application. If however, the student has not applied through any method, two other applications are available.

We are hopeful that the Common App will be able to resolve these issues quickly.

We just finished training our 2013-2014 Transfer to Teal Guides and couldn't be happier with our new team! Anna-Joy, Vanessa, Drew, Bayley and Stephanie are excited to get prospective students and their guests out on the tour route to share our beautiful campus as well as their personal story of transition and favorite things about being a transfer student.

Available on select Fridays throughout the academic year at 1pm, the Transfer to Teal tour includes a pre-tour presentation given by a Transfer Admissions Counselor and a walking tour of campus lead by current UNCW transfer students.

New First-Year Admissions Coordinator Donovan Smith

Hello Seahawk Nation,

My name is Donovan Smith Jr., and I am the new Freshman Admissions Coordinator for the Office of Admissions. I just wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself to the Seahawk community and let you all know how excited I am to have made the transition from student to staff here at UNCW.

I was born and raised in Norwood, North Carolina, a small southern town. From an early age, I wanted to be different and make a name for myself. I realized that I would be the first person in my family to go to college, possibly paving the way for my younger cousins, nieces and nephews.  That’s when I decided to become a Seahawk and explore endless avenues of success!

Throughout my four years of undergrad at UNCW, I was very involved. I was an RA for three years in both freshman and upperclassmen dorms. I also worked the front desk of the dorms as well. I became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. also, serving on the executive board. All of these things made becoming a Seahawk one of my best moves yet.

My passions are helping others, making a difference, and overall, leaving every place I encounter in life better than I found it, and so I welcome all of you to contact me at any time, for anything admissions related as well as anything else you may need.  I am assigned regionally to the high schools in the South Central part of North Carolina, but I hold an open-door policy to anyone willing to knock! I look forward to hearing from you!
